Just another day. Nothing to see here.

I realize not everyone thinks Valentine’s day is as pointless as I, so Happy Valentine’s Day to those of you who care about it! I hope no one who is reading this feels isolated by today – that’s the #1 reason I dislike February 14th.

For someone who doesn’t care for Valentine’s Day, I sure do get excited when I get to break out the French Connection sweater which, for some reason, I have deemed appropriate only for February 14th. I don’t know why I don’t wear it any other day of the year because it’s pretty cute if Idosaysomyself.

Purposely not including my face makes it look like I'm just showing off my sweater puppies - sorry

Moving on.

So I filed my taxes last week because I knew I would be getting a little money back and, damnit, I wanted my money back ASAP.

I was reading about what some of you were planning on doing with your big tax returns: a massage, a fun new toy, maybe some new girly products, a trip, etc.

I started fantasizing about what I would do with my extra $1335 I would soon be getting and was jolted back to reality when I realized: Oh yeah. I’m using ALL of it to pay for my medical bills post-surgery. Fantastic!!! I want to hear if any of you are getting anything new, fun and exciting – please share. I will live vicariously through you.

I do have something new, fun and exciting that I will (hopefully) be picking up tonight and I was lucky because I didn’t have to pay for her myself. I will share once she arrives safely into my arms. Much thought has gone into this and I never thought I would be able to get one so once someone offered to get it for me, I knew I had to have it. I'm excited.

  1. Dear God, for some reason my bank is sending out the last damn piece of paperwork tomorrow (I can download it). Right now my tax return looks great. I can't wait what Turbotax will do whenI enter this info.....you know, I hope the little ticker won't go WAY down. Shoudn't really, but who knows.

Will let you know what fabulous thing I will do with it. Probably savings account, one credit card payment and, uhm, some into my condo bank account and a little treat. I am hoping for that.

    1. I hope that ticker doesn't go down either! That happened to me last year and it was really depressing. I want to hear what little "treat" you decide to get.

  2. Adorable sweater! It's definitely appropriate for more days than just today :-)

And I got a whimpy return this year due to not having enough held back last year. I had grand plans as well (new furniture!) and ended up just using the money for upcoming bridesmaid things I have to do. *sigh* Someday I'll get new furniture. Although I do have something to be relieved about - a friend of mine didn't have her company holding back ANY federal taxes (and didn't realize it...) so she had to pay the piper this year - OUCH!

    1. Thank you! I need to wear it more.

My return last year SUCKED. I actually owed state taxes but I got a little more this year because of school. Paying all her federal taxes in one lump? HOLY SHIT! I hope she saved some money :/

  3. I've never actually filed my own taxes (yes, I'm 30), I usually have my parents' accountant do it. This year, I found my own tax person. High-five to adulthood!

No clue how much I'm getting back but every last penny is going towards my enormously enormous MBA debt. And if I didn't have that debt, I'd be paying medical bills :) Being a grown-up is rad... most days.

That heart sweater is so cute!! The navy color makes it wearable year-round.

    1. I had an accountant do mine the first couple years after I moved out on my own but it was $$$. I can do them for free on turbo tax and it's easy but I 100% get wanting to hire someone - you're not the only one responsible if they're wrong!

It's actually black (crappy camera) which makes it even easier to wear year-round.

    2. Tax documents are just so complicated! I switched employers this year and I have no idea how taxes and student loans work, not to mention FSAs, charitable donations, and that body pillow I'm pretending is a dependent (kidding on the last one... just in case the IRS is reading!)

  6. I love how you turned a Valentine's Day post into a post about taxes. I'm not sure how much I'm going to get back, but, whatever it is, it's going in the bank. I sense some rainy days ahead . . .
